Cargo vessel sinks in the waters off Vaavu Atoll Fulidhoo
Police received reports that the vessel was sinking at approximately 3:26 p.m. on Thursday.

A cargo vessel named Jazeera, traveling from Malé to GDh. Thinadhoo, has sunk in the waters west of V. Fulidhoo.
In a message to the media, the Maldives Police Service stated that they received reports of the vessel sinking at approximately 3:26 PM on Thursday afternoon.
Furthermore, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that they have received reports of the vessel sinking approximately 5 nautical miles off the coast of Fulidhoo. The MNDF also confirmed that a vessel from the Malé Area Command and the Coast Guard Second Squadron is currently en route to the scene.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has issued a warning to seafarers regarding debris drifting from the vessel, urging all travelers in the area to exercise extreme caution. The MNDF Coast Guard specified that the debris is estimated to be drifting eastward, approximately five nautical miles off the coast of V. Felidhoo. Authorities have further advised those navigating through this region, particularly during night hours, to remain highly vigilant to ensure safety.
All individuals aboard the vessel that sank have now been transported to Fulidhoo with the assistance of the police. The group consists of four expatriate men and three Maldivian men. Authorities have confirmed that everyone rescued is in good health.
The MNDF is currently working to refloat the vessel.
