PNC MPs are waiting for an "escape route": MP Ahmed Didi
MP Didi stated that PNC lawmakers are deeply disillusioned as the government has failed to deliver on its promises. He noted that with development projects at a standstill, members are unable to address the grievances of their constituents and are prepared to defect from the ruling party at the first opportunity. Didi further highlighted that despite the PNC holding 75 seats, only about six members consistently participate in parliamentary debates, a situation he believes clearly illustrates the current state of discontent within the ruling coalition.

Ahmed Didi, the Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency, has stated that lawmakers representing the People's National Congress (PNC) are currently waiting for an escape route.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, MP Didi stated that several members of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) had initially contested and won their seats as independent candidates. He noted that these members joined the PNC and began working with the administration with high expectations.
However, MP Didi stated that as the administration nears the two-and-a-half-year mark, PNC lawmakers are facing deep disillusionment because none of the promises made to them have been fulfilled. He further noted that they are now left without answers for the grievances and complaints being raised by their constituents.
Referring to the campaign period of the most recent local council elections, MP Didi stated that the visits made to various islands during that time clearly revealed the sentiments and standing of the constituents represented by PNC members.
The members are currently in a state of deep disillusionment. They are all searching for an escape route, and I believe they will leave the moment they find one. The reality is that they joined with high expectations. Upon arrival, they followed every instruction issued by the President. The hope they were given was always deferred to the following year. In 2024, the narrative was that progress was stalled because they were working with an MDP-authored budget from 2023. They were promised that once they took over, foreign funding would be secured and that "green signals" were already in place. Members were told not to worry and were assured that all projects in their respective constituencies would be fulfilled.Ahmed Didi, Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency.
MP Didi stated that although the public elected President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and PNC members to Parliament with high hopes, citizens are now deeply concerned over the lack of progress on development projects. He noted that initiatives launched by the previous administration have come to a standstill and are falling into disrepair. Furthermore, the MP asserted that the public now views this government as one that is excessively wasting state funds.
Furthermore, Member Didi noted that despite the People's National Congress (PNC) holding 75 seats in Parliament, the same six members consistently dominate the debates, while the voices of the remaining members remain unheard. He pointed out that regardless of whether the session lasts one hour or three, these members show no active participation. He added that this situation alone serves as a clear indicator for the public to gauge the current state and effectiveness of their representatives.
