Funfalhu House Fire: 109 people affected, MVR 95,000 spent on relief efforts
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has spent MVR 95,000 to assist 109 individuals affected by the fire at G. Funfalhu, providing five days of emergency housing for the 16 most severely impacted residents. While 28 people received hospital treatment for smoke inhalation, authorities are currently conducting a structural assessment to determine the full extent of the damage to the building. According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the fire broke out on the fifth floor and was successfully extinguished after an hour-long operation.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced that temporary housing and meal arrangements have been provided for 93 individuals from 22 apartments following a fire at G. Funfalu on the night of October 5. The assistance has been facilitated for a duration of two days.
Providing the latest update on the incident, the authority stated that emergency housing and meal assistance have been arranged for 16 residents from three apartments (5A, 5B, and 5C) on the fire-damaged fifth floor. This support has been extended for a duration of five days.
The authority noted that MVR 95,000 has been spent to date on providing humanitarian aid to the 109 individuals affected by the incident. Furthermore, the authority stated that work is currently underway to conduct the necessary assessments to determine the full extent of the damages incurred.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) received the report of the incident at approximately 10:49 p.m. on Sunday night. According to the MNDF, firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze by around 11:48 p.m. that same night.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) previously stated that the fire broke out on the fifth floor of the building, resulting in the total loss of household items in the affected apartment. The agency noted that the ceiling had also sustained severe smoke damage, leaving it heavily charred. Furthermore, the NDMA confirmed that 28 individuals received medical attention for smoke inhalation following the incident, with 25 treated at IGMH and three at ADK Hospital.
An evacuation center has been established at Galolhu School to provide assistance to those affected by the incident.
