Fire Incident at Hulhumalé Flat 110: Two Apartments Destroyed, 15 People Provided Temporary Shelter
A severe fire in a Hulhumalé Phase 1 apartment complex has caused extensive damage to two units, with preliminary findings suggesting the blaze was ignited by a tool-melting device in a living room. One individual is currently receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital for burn injuries, while five others were treated for smoke inhalation. The NDMA is currently providing emergency relief and psychological first aid to the displaced families.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary housing for 15 individuals displaced by a dangerous fire that broke out at Flat 110 in Hulhumale' Phase I.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) received the report of the incident at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday night. Upon receiving the report, firefighters from the local station were immediately dispatched to the scene. Through their efforts, the fire was successfully extinguished by approximately 1:23 a.m.
Citing police reports, NDMA stated that the incident is believed to have been caused by a "tool melting device" catching fire in the apartment's living room.
NDMA stated that two apartments, located on the first and third floors, sustained significant damage. The authority further noted that the units have been rendered uninhabitable due to extensive smoke penetration.
NDMA stated that five out of the seven Maldivians residing in the apartment at the time of the incident received medical treatment. According to the authority, the victims included a male and a female minor. Citing Hulhumalé Hospital, the NDMA further reported that one individual sustained 12 percent burns to their arms and legs but is currently in stable condition and recovering. All other individuals have been discharged following medical treatment.
Furthermore, NDMA stated that an apartment affected by smoke has also been evacuated.
In this regard, the authority stated that temporary housing has also been arranged for eight Maldivians.
The NDMA stated that they are working with the Maldivian Red Crescent to provide the family with necessary psychological first aid. Photos released following the fire reveal that the entire apartment has been gutted, with the furniture damaged beyond repair.
Police stated that they are conducting further investigations into the incident.
