Funfalhuge Fire Causes Extensive Apartment Damage, 58 Assisted
MNDF firefighters have successfully extinguished a fire that broke out on the fifth floor of G. Funfalu, an incident that resulted in 28 individuals receiving hospital treatment for smoke inhalation. While the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided emergency shelter and food assistance to 58 people displaced by the blaze, the affected apartment sustained extensive damage, with all household items reportedly destroyed beyond use.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced that it provided emergency assistance to 58 residents following a fire at G. Funfalhu.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) received the report of the incident at approximately 10:49 p.m. on Sunday night. According to the MNDF, firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze by around 11:48 p.m. later that night.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that the fire broke out on the fifth floor of the building, resulting in the total loss of household items and severe smoke damage that blackened the ceilings. The authority further confirmed that 28 individuals received medical attention for smoke inhalation, with 25 treated at IGMH and three at ADK Hospital.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that an evacuation center has been established at Galolhu School to provide assistance following the incident, with support already extended to more than 58 residents of the building.
In this regard, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided humanitarian assistance, temporary shelter, and meal arrangements for the residents of the three apartments on the fire-stricken fifth floor, as well as for those living in units currently without water due to plumbing damage.
Furthermore, some media outlets, citing residents of the building, have reported that the fire was triggered by a power bank that caught fire in one of the apartment's bedrooms.
However, no relevant authorities have yet confirmed this.
