Maafushi Prison begins using baggage screening machine to bolster security
Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has officially inaugurated a baggage screening machine at Maafushi Prison, donated by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to bolster correctional security. This marks the first time such technology has been installed at the facility to inspect items brought into the prison. The implementation of this screening process for family parcels and visitor belongings is expected to significantly enhance efforts to prevent the smuggling of contraband into the institution.

The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has officially commissioned a new baggage screening machine at Maafushi Prison.
The service was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan.
According to Maldives Correctional Service, the baggage screening machine donated by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) was installed to strengthen prison security. This marks the first time such equipment has been deployed at Maafushi Prison.
While Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) provided technical training on the operation of the machine, Maldives Customs Service conducted the specialized training required for baggage screening.
Furthermore, Maldives Correctional Service noted that the machine will be utilized to screen belongings brought by new inmates and detainees upon admission, items sent to them by their families, as well as the personal effects of individuals visiting the prison for family or private meetings.
