Work underway to resolve supply shortages at Maafushi Prison inmate shop: Corrections
The Maldives Correctional Service has attributed the ongoing shortage of essential goods at the Maafushi Prison shop to supply chain disruptions, dismissing public concerns and allegations that the scarcity stems from unpaid government dues to suppliers. Authorities clarified that the issue is strictly logistical and confirmed that efforts are currently underway to resolve the shortage and ensure that inmates have access to necessary supplies.

A member of the public has informed RaajjeMV that several items commonly purchased by inmates from the shop at Maafushi Prison are currently unavailable. The source stated that there are ongoing difficulties in obtaining even essential supplies at the facility.
He further explained that the situation reportedly stems from the state's failure to settle an outstanding debt of 40 million Rufiyaa owed to the business operating the facility. He noted that this issue is causing significant hardship for the inmates.
When questioned by RaajjeMV regarding the matter, a media official from the Maldives Correctional Service stated that supply challenges were encountered during the holiday period. The official further noted that efforts are currently underway to resolve the issue.
However, the official denied claims that 40 million Rufiyaa is owed to the business. Consequently, Maldives Correctional Service has refuted allegations that the current issues have arisen due to outstanding payments by the state.
