Identities of suspects released in 8kg drug seizure case
A court has remanded three Maldivians and two Indians for 15 days following their arrest for attempting to smuggle over eight kilograms of hashish oil into the Maldives. The seized narcotics, intercepted on October 9, have an estimated street value of MVR 6 million, and police are currently conducting further investigations into the case.

Authorities have released the identities of five individuals arrested at Velana International Airport in connection with an attempt to smuggle over eight kilograms of narcotics into the Maldives.
The individuals arrested in connection with this case have been identified as two Indian nationals, Mohammed Mushtaq Jamal (29) and Sirajuddin Rashitha (26), along with three Maldivians: Ahmed Afrah (33) of Feyrugasdhoshuge, Mukurimagu, L. Gan; Ilyas Ahmed (42) of H. Kahafathi, Male'; and Hassan Shamoon (36) of G. Heli, Male'.
These five individuals were taken into custody by Maldives Customs Service and subsequently handed over to the police on suspicion of smuggling more than eight kilograms of narcotics into the country.
The individuals were arrested on June 9 on suspicion of importing, distributing, and trafficking drugs in the Maldives. Following their arrest, the suspects were produced before the court to determine their remand status, where the judge ordered all five individuals to be detained for a period of 15 days.
Maldives Customs Service has confirmed that the seized substances consist of 8.49 kilograms of hashish oil. Customs further estimated that the street value of the confiscated drugs exceeds 6 million Maldivian Rufiyaa.
The police are currently investigating the matter.
