Kolhufushi Road Development: Physical work stalled after initial launch coincided with Muizzu’s visit!
Residents of M. Kolhufushi have expressed concern over the lack of progress on the island's road construction project, which has seen no practical work since its ceremonial launch during Muizzu's visit. Despite the Road Development Corporation (RDC) being contracted to develop 3.8 kilometers of road, the project remains stalled, leaving newly hired staff without work. Mohamed Ihusan, an MDP National Council member for the constituency, noted that even the paving blocks initially laid to signify the project's commencement have since been removed.

It has been revealed that no progress has been made on the road development project in M. Atoll, despite physical works being inaugurated to coincide with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to the islands last year.
President Muizzu arrived on the island on September 23, 2025. To coincide with the President's visit, the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, officially inaugurated the physical works for the project to upgrade Kolhufushi's roads to modern standards.
Regarding the project, Mohamed Ihusan, the MDP National Congress member for the constituency, stated that the road construction project was one of President Muizzu’s most significant pledges to Kolhufushi. He noted that the physical work on the project was inaugurated to coincide with the President's visit to the island.
However, he noted that no practical work on the project has been carried out to date. He further stated that even the foundation stones laid to mark the commencement of the project have since been removed.
Looking at the overall situation in Kolhufushi, the most significant and high-priority pledge made to the island was the road construction project. A high-profile ceremony was even held to launch the project just ahead of the elections. Under this initiative, paving stones previously laid during our earlier project in Mulah were uprooted and transported to Kolhufushi, where they were laid across a specific area to mark the project's inauguration. Furthermore, a large number of local residents were recruited for the project. Consequently, these individuals now remain idle within the community with no work to perform.Mohamed Ihusan, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Council member for the Mulaku constituency.
Under this project, RDC is set to develop 3.8 kilometers of roads.
