Youths in Addu City have staged a protest over the Road Development Corporation's (RDC) failure to pay for vehicles leased for its projects.
A source informed RaajjeMV that groups of young people staged protests with their vehicles in front of the Road Development Corporation (RDC) office throughout Wednesday and Thursday. The demonstrations were sparked by the state-owned company's failure to settle outstanding payments for vehicles hired to carry out RDC projects.
During the protest, the youth displayed messages on the vehicles demanding the payment of dues owed to them. The protesters characterized the situation as a deceptive act. Members of the public alleged that the Road Development Corporation (RDC) is misleading the people of Addu by bringing in two vehicles under the guise of constructing the Addu Link Road, merely to create a false sense of progress.
Critics have accused the government of deception for failing to settle outstanding payments owed to the public. Concerned citizens have described the situation as shameful, particularly as the administration seeks to gain an advantage in the upcoming Hithadhoo North constituency by-election.
