No roads in Kudahuvadhoo upgraded to modern standards under current administration
Shathir, the MDP President for the Kudahuvadhoo constituency, has expressed concern over the suspension of the road development project initiated by the previous administration to modernize the island's streets. He noted that while pavements and conduits have been completed on nine roads under the project contracted to RDC, not a single street has been asphalted since the current government took office. The project, valued at 122 million MVR, was originally scheduled for completion within 450 days.

It has been revealed that not a single street has been developed to modern standards in D. Kudahuvadhoo under the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, despite the ongoing road construction project.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program, Shathir Abdul Rahman, the MDP National Council President for the Kudahuvadhoo constituency, expressed deep concern over the complete standstill of development projects across the islands within his constituency.
Referring to Kudahuvadhoo, Shathir stated that the physical work for the second phase of the road development project commenced alongside the Local Council Elections, the Women's Development Committee elections, and the referendum held on April 4th.
However, he noted that practical work has come to a standstill following the election. He further stated that the asphalt brought in for the Kudahuvadhoo road project was reportedly sourced from Maamigili, where it had originally been designated for use on that island's roads.
President Muizzu pledged to complete the Kudahuvadhoo road project at a rapid pace during the signing of the second phase on February 27, 2024. However, to this day, not a single street has been paved with asphalt, and the project is now approaching its third year of delay. This work was already well underway during the MDP administration; it is not a new initiative. By the end of the MDP government, pavements had been constructed and utility pipes laid on nine different streets. Despite the current administration approaching its third year, asphalt has yet to be laid on those roads. Instead of expanding the project to additional streets, the government has failed to even complete the paving on the sections where the groundwork was already finished by the previous MDP administration.Shathir Abdul Rahman, President of the MDP National Congress Kudahuvadhoo Constituency.
The government signed an agreement with the Road Development Corporation (RDC) in late September 2021 to undertake the Kudahuvadhoo road construction project. Under the terms of this agreement, the project involves laying asphalt on 5.85 kilometers of roads in Kudahuvadhoo, alongside the installation of a comprehensive drainage system and street lighting.
The project, which will be carried out in multiple phases, has been awarded to RDC with a completion timeline of 450 days. According to the government, the total cost of the project is estimated at MVR 122 million.
