"MV Crisis" not operated by Shumba: Civil Court
The Civil Court has ruled against Abdulla Mahzoom Majid in a defamation lawsuit filed against Ahmed Ashraf (Shumba), alleging that the "MV Crisis" page had tarnished his reputation. The court determined that the evidence presented was insufficient to prove, under civil standards, that Ashraf was the individual responsible for operating the page. Consequently, the presiding judge concluded that damages for defamation could not be awarded as the ownership of the social media account could not be definitively established.

The Civil Court on Thursday ruled against a defamation lawsuit filed against Ahmed Ashraf (Shumba Gong), citing a lack of evidence to prove that he owns or operates the social media accounts known as "MV Crisis."
This case involves a defamation lawsuit filed against Ahmed Ashraf, seeking damages for the dissemination of false information regarding Abdulla Mahzoom Majid on the "MV Crisis" platform using his photograph. Mahzoom’s legal team contends that Ashraf is the operator of the MV Crisis page and asserts that a specific post published on the platform has caused significant damage to his reputation.
However, in the verdict delivered by Judge Ahmed Abdul Matheen, the court ruled that the evidence presented by the plaintiff was insufficient to prove, under the civil standard of proof, that the "MVCrisis" page is directly operated by Ashraf.
The court ruled that the evidence presented to link the social media handle "Shumba Gong" to Ashraf was legally insufficient to establish his ownership of the account.
The judgment, delivered in Ashraf’s absence, ruled that since it could not be proven that he is the operator of MV Crisis, there was insufficient evidence to establish that he had defamed Mahzoom. Consequently, the court decided that no damages for defamation could be awarded.
