Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for South Galolhu and a candidate for the MDP chairpersonship, has expressed regret over the actions of certain individuals seeking to resolve internal party disputes through the courts rather than through internal dialogue.
Meekail made these remarks while speaking at a press conference held by the "Ithubaaru" campaign at the MDP headquarters on Monday. During the briefing, Meekail stated that filing a case in Civil Court to invalidate the timeline for the chairperson election is fundamentally contrary to the core values of the MDP. He emphasized that the MDP has always been a party that upholds fairness and grants its general membership the authority to make key decisions.
A case has been filed with the Civil Court seeking to invalidate the election timeline. I believe this action is fundamentally at odds with the core values and original identity of the MDP. I have always known the MDP to be a party that upholds democratic principles, values justice through the ballot box, and empowers its general membership to make key decisions. Therefore, I am deeply saddened that the rival faction is undermining the party's internal harmony by taking such matters to the Civil Court. It is regrettable that they are attempting to resolve issues through the judiciary that could, and should, be settled within the party's own internal mechanisms.Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, who is contesting for the position of Chairperson of the MDP.
Meekail stated that the party's general membership is showing a strong spirit of unity, with a clear focus on working together to secure victory in the 2028 presidential election. He further noted that this sentiment was clearly evident during the campaign team's recent visits to various islands.
Providing details on upcoming campaign activities, Meekail announced that the campaign team is scheduled to travel to Raa and Lhaviyani Atolls next week. During this trip, he will officially launch his manifesto for the chairpersonship and outline the key proposals he intends to offer party members under his leadership.
Furthermore, Meekail stated that the election for the MDP Chairperson must proceed in accordance with the established regulations, timelines, and deadlines. He reiterated that internal party elections should be conducted strictly within the framework of the party’s governing statutes and procedures.
