Allegations that the case filed in Civil Court was submitted on behalf of President Nasheed’s campaign are false: Waheed
President Nasheed's campaign team has clarified that the lawsuit filed in Civil Court regarding the MDP internal elections was not initiated by them, but was instead a private legal challenge brought forward by an individual lawyer. The team explained that the lawyer acted independently due to alleged procedural violations by the election committee that contravened the party’s charter, emphasizing that their own objective remains ensuring members can vote as soon as possible. They further cautioned that spreading misinformation regarding this matter undermines the party's interests and erodes public confidence in the electoral process.

Abdulla Waheed, the spokesperson for former President Mohamed Nasheed’s campaign, has categorically denied reports that a lawsuit filed against the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the Civil Court on Sunday was initiated by the campaign team.
Abdulla Waheed stated that spreading such falsehoods would undermine public confidence in the Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) internal elections. He further noted that these actions could jeopardize the party's internal stability. He added that President Nasheed’s campaign team is calling for the general membership of the MDP to be granted the opportunity to vote as soon as possible.
In a press statement, Waheed further clarified that the case was filed in the Civil Court by attorney Abdulla Shairu in his personal capacity.
The case is predicated on allegations that the Elections Committee has been organizing the election based on its own independent decisions, without any guidance or instruction from the President of the Appeals Tribunal, in violation of Article 46 of the MDP Charter. The petition seeks an order to compel the party leadership and the Elections Committee to strictly adhere to the MDP Charter.
Waheed stated that the campaign will regularly disclose its activities, decisions, and the measures being taken to the public.
