Land officially handed over for construction of Hulhumalé Grand Mosque
Construction of a new mosque connecting Hulhumalé Phase 2 and Phase 3 is scheduled to begin this September, coinciding with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives' conversion to Islam. Funded by Saudi Arabia’s Al-Rajhi Company, the project will feature both a mosque and a dedicated Quran Museum, with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) having already signed the land handover agreement with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to facilitate the development.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has officially handed over the land designated for the construction of the Maldives' largest mosque in Hulhumalé to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
During a special ceremony held on Wednesday, the land handover agreement was signed by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, on behalf of the Ministry. Managing Director Brigadier General (Retd.) Ali Zuhair signed the document on behalf of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The mosque is scheduled to be constructed between Hulhumalé Phase 2 and Phase 3.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that it has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Rajhi Company to finance the construction of a major mosque in Hulhumalé.
The physical construction of this grand mosque is scheduled to commence in conjunction with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives' conversion to Islam. The Ministry stated that efforts are underway to begin practical work on the project this September.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has stated that the mosque complex will feature a Quran museum and other essential facilities in addition to the prayer hall.
