Police Restructure Administrative Framework to Include 14 Command Levels!
The Maldives Police Service has begun appointing officers to new positions following the implementation of a restructured organizational framework on June 1, 2024, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. Under this new structure, core functions such as investigations and operational support have been reorganized into distinct commands, while specialized regional commands have been established for Male' and the atolls to facilitate more community-oriented policing.

The Maldives Police Service has introduced significant structural changes to its administrative framework, aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing operational standards.
The Maldives Police Service stated that the new organizational structure, which came into effect on June 1, 2024, was developed to achieve more effective results in the delivery of policing services.
In line with these changes, the police service is currently working to appoint officers to positions under the new organizational structure and implement necessary administrative policy reforms. The institution further noted that practical efforts to implement the new framework are already underway.
The new organizational structure is designed to manage the core services of the police force under distinct, specialized commands. This framework encompasses all critical sectors, including investigations, intelligence, forensics, operational support, technology, training, and corporate support.
Under this framework, the command-level components include the Office of the Commissioner, the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, Professional Standards, and the National Intelligence Service.
Furthermore, the departments of Internal Security and Operational Support, Forensic Services, Central Investigations, Service Development, Service Support, and Digital Data and Technology have also been incorporated at the command level.
Under the new regional service distribution model, distinct commands have been established for Male’ Police, Hulhumale’ Police, Northern Police, and Southern Police. The police service highlighted this as a significant structural change aimed at bringing essential services closer to the community.
The police stated that this new framework is designed to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and streamline operational management. Furthermore, the police noted that the primary objectives of this restructuring include expanding the roles of frontline service providers and ensuring the optimal utilization of institutional resources in response to the evolving security landscape of the Maldives.
