The closure was implemented as a safety precaution pending necessary repairs, and assessments are currently underway to facilitate the reopening of the jetty, which serves as a vital hub for numerous safaris and resort speedboats.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced the temporary closure of the Hulhumalé wooden jetty effective Tuesday, following reports of significant structural damage.
HDC stated that the jetty was damaged when a cargo barge attempted to dock in the area. The corporation noted that the incident caused significant structural damage to the jetty, making it currently unsafe for use.
In an announcement, HDC stated that the jetty’s structure sustained significant damage following a barge collision. Consequently, the decision has been made to temporarily close the jetty to ensure public safety. HDC further noted that the closure will remain in effect indefinitely until repair works are completed.
The company stated that access to and use of the jetty will be prohibited until all necessary safety assessments are completed and required repairs are finalized to ensure the structure's integrity.
The Hulhumalé wooden jetty is a vital hub frequently used by tourists arriving from safaris and a large number of travelers departing from the Hulhumalé harbor. Located adjacent to the Hulhumalé ferry terminal, this jetty is also a primary docking point for numerous speedboats arriving from various resorts.
