Islamic Ministry formulates special plan for Eid celebrations
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has established a special committee to formulate a comprehensive plan for nationwide Eid celebrations, set to commence from the upcoming Hijri New Year. Working in collaboration with local councils and non-governmental organizations, the Ministry aims to standardize festivities across the country while ensuring they align with Islamic principles and Maldivian cultural heritage. According to the government, this initiative is designed to streamline activities across atolls and cities, fostering a stronger sense of religious and social harmony within the community.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has commenced work on a special strategic plan to ensure that Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are celebrated on a grand scale across the Maldives every year, starting from the upcoming Hijri New Year.
In a message sent to the media on Thursday, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed announced that a special committee within the ministry has begun drafting a plan to celebrate the two Islamic Eids across Male' and the atolls, starting from the year 1448 AH. The Minister noted that this plan is not merely a set of regulations, but rather a framework developed in collaboration with local councils and NGOs to organize and coordinate activities for the occasion of Eid.
Under this plan, it has been decided that Eid festivities will be conducted in consultation with local councils and with the active participation of Islamic civil society organizations operating in the islands. The Minister further noted that significant events will be organized specifically to celebrate Eid across the cities of the Maldives. As this is a collaborative effort involving various government departments, Minister Shaheem stated that they will be working closely with the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage to execute these activities.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has begun drafting a specialized plan for future Eid celebrations amid significant public debate and criticism surrounding activities held during the recent Eid al-Adha. This move follows the "Mashi Maali" parade in Kulhudhuffushi, which featured floats critical of the administration, prompting some government supporters to call for a ban on such events.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs stated that this plan will ensure consistency in future Eid celebrations while providing an opportunity to revive beautiful Islamic traditions and Maldivian cultural customs.
