Vice President calls for restoration of long-standing ties and solidarity as Eid celebrations begin
On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef urged the public to draw inspiration from the profound lessons of the Hajj pilgrimage by fostering goodwill and strengthening communal ties. This sentiment was echoed by the President and the national Eid sermon, both of which called on citizens to observe the festivities in accordance with Islamic principles and Maldivian traditions while avoiding any practices that contradict the faith.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has called for the restoration of old friendships and the strengthening of social bonds as the nation celebrates Eid al-Adha.
In a post on X extending Eid al-Adha greetings, the Vice President emphasized the importance of drawing lessons from the sacred day of Hajj to foster goodness, urging the community to remain united and resilient during this festive occasion.
Emphasizing the need to restore the camaraderie and solidarity of the past, he called upon everyone to greet one another with a sincere message of peace and goodwill.
In his post, the Vice President also highlighted that unity is a formidable force.
The Vice President’s appeal follows a similar call from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who urged the public to adhere to Islamic principles and values while celebrating Eid. The President encouraged citizens to uphold traditional Maldivian customs and refrain from practices that are foreign to the nation's heritage.
Eid al-Adha is one of the two major festivals in Islam, celebrated following the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage. As festivities are observed with great fervor across the Maldives, the Eid sermon called for an end to practices such as harassment, mockery, and cross-dressing. It also urged the public to refrain from activities involving the intermingling of genders during celebrations. Furthermore, the sermon reminded organizers of Eid activities to maintain piety and fulfill their obligation to avoid actions that contradict Islamic principles or emulate the religious symbols and rituals of other faiths.
