Despite the government's claims of implementing austerity measures, it has decided to hold grand Eid celebrations in Malé for three days.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has announced plans to hold grand celebrations for this year's Eid al-Adha in the Greater Male' Area. Titled "Eid Haveeru 1445," the event aims to provide families with a festive environment to gather and celebrate the occasion together.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has announced that the "Eid Haveeru 1447" event, coordinated by the military, will feature participation from the police service and 10 state-owned enterprises.
Eid festivities in Malé will take place over three days from May 27 to 29, spanning Sultan Park, the Martyrs' Monument area, Republic Square, and the Presidential Jetty area. These locations will feature a variety of attractions, including water fountains, foam bath pools, and rappelling activities. Additionally, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) will showcase various military uniforms, operational weaponry, and land and sea vehicles, with opportunities for the public to take photographs. Furthermore, special performances by the MNDF Adjutant General's Corps Arts and Ceremonial Service are scheduled for May 28 in Malé. Canteen services will also be available for visitors throughout the festivities.
The Eid festivities are scheduled to take place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on each day of the celebrations.
Eid festivities in Hulhumale will be held over three days at Central Park and the Hiyaa Park area in Phase 2. Activities at Hulhumale Central Park will include rappelling, water slides, and a foam bath pool, with canteen services available for visitors. The events at Hiyaa Park in Phase 2 will feature rappelling demonstrations, displays of firefighting equipment, and turntable ladder climbs. Additionally, the MNDF Adjutant General's Corps Arts and Ceremonial Service is scheduled to perform special presentations at Hulhumale Central Park on May 27 and 29.
The "Eid Haveeru" festival, scheduled to take place at the Villimale' football ground from May 27 to 30, will feature a variety of activities including rappelling opportunities, obstacle courses, and several other engaging games designed for children.
State-owned enterprises participating in this year's Eid festivities include STELCO, MWSC, WAMCO, MPL, MTCC, MACL, MIFCO, RDC, HDC, and FDC.
Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed previously announced that this year’s Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on a grand scale at a national level in three islands across the Maldives. While the government has decided to hold these large-scale national celebrations, the global economy is currently facing significant negative impacts due to the conflict arising from joint strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran. These tensions have led to shortages in oil and gas supplies, causing a surge in the prices of essential goods.
