Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that his decision to rejoin the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is aimed at reforming the party's internal affairs.
As Nasheed contests for the position of MDP Chairperson, he continues to spearhead his "Bodu Badhalu" (Great Change) campaign across the Maldives.
During a meeting with the residents of F. Feeali, Nasheed stated that the MDP is the only party capable of bringing significant change to the Maldives, expressing his desire to pursue those efforts from within the party.
In response to a question from a member of the public regarding the ambiguity surrounding the MDP’s top leadership, Nasheed stated that there are significant concerns. He noted that his decision to rejoin the party was driven by a desire to address and rectify these issues.
Furthermore, Nasheed stated that those at the forefront of the party should be, and must remain, its active workers. He noted that his recent remarks in the MDP National Council’s WhatsApp group—where he asserted that party affairs should be managed by those actively engaged in its work—were met with disapproval and rejection by his rivals.
However, Nasheed stated that this is how things ought to proceed, adding that success can only be achieved through perseverance and hard work.
Nasheed stated that the MDP Chairperson must be elected through a vote involving all party members, emphasizing that every member should participate in the voting process.
