MDP general members do not need to apologize to anyone: Meekail
Meekail Ahmed Naseem, a candidate for the MDP chairpersonship, has hit back at former President Mohamed Nasheed’s assertion that the party's general members owe an apology. Meekail defended the membership, stating that they have made immense sacrifices for the party and have done nothing to warrant an apology to anyone. He further emphasized that while members are often sidelined for political gain, those in leadership positions only achieved their status through the tireless hard work and dedication of the general grassroots members.

Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for South Galolhu and a candidate for the chairpersonship of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has stated that the party's general members have done nothing that warrants an apology to anyone.
Meekail made these remarks in response to former President Mohamed Nasheed’s recent apology to MDP members for leaving the party. During a meeting with the residents of R. Dhuvaafaru on Friday, Nasheed stated that the general membership of the MDP should also apologize, though he did not specify the reasons why such an apology was necessary.
In response to these remarks during a meeting held Saturday in Ha. Kelaa, Meekail stated that he does not believe the general members of the MDP owe an apology to anyone, whether it be to Nasheed or any other individual.
Furthermore, Meekail stated that the general members of the MDP have made significant sacrifices, the results of which are clearly visible. He emphasized that those in the party's leadership did not reach their positions through their own efforts alone, but rather through the hard work of the general membership.
However, he stated that in 2023, these efforts were disregarded as thousands of MDP members were sidelined for political gain. He further noted that, despite these circumstances, he does not believe the general membership of the MDP owes an apology to anyone.
