MDP Chairperson Election: Final Voters' List Released
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened applications for election officials and established a compliance committee to oversee grievances for its upcoming chairperson election scheduled for June. To ensure transparency, the party committed to publishing details regarding any members removed from the voters' list. Members not actively involved in the campaigns of candidates—former President Mohamed Nasheed and MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem—have until the 30th of this month to apply for official roles in the election.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has released the final voters' list for its chairperson election, which is scheduled to take place on June 12.
The party stated that members included in the published permanent list who resign from the party between Friday and election day will be removed from the registry. The party further noted that details regarding those removed from the list will be announced at a later date.
The final voters' list has been published, including details of the specific island where each member is registered to vote. The party noted that this is a significant step toward ensuring transparency throughout the election process.
An announcement has also been made seeking officials to work in the upcoming election. The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) stated that members interested in volunteering as officials for the party’s Chairperson election, scheduled for Friday, June 12, 2026, are invited to assist the Elections Committee at the polling stations in Malé. Interested members are requested to submit their applications via the provided Google Form link before 2:00 PM on May 30, 2026.
These members must not be actively involved in any campaign activities. The Elections Committee stated that it will determine the specific centers where successful applicants will be stationed.
In accordance with Article 46(a) of the Election Regulations, the Elections Committee has officially formed and announced the Compliance Committee for the party's chairperson election, scheduled to take place on Friday, June 12, 2026.
The candidates contesting for this position are former President Mohamed Nasheed and the Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency, Mickail Ahmed Naseem.
