A large number of people gathered to protest at the STO pharmacy in GDh. Thinadhoo City today, expressing their frustration over the ongoing cement shortage in the city.
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed recently stated that despite a potential shortage of cement from STO, the Maldives will maintain a continuous supply of cement.
However, many continue to report that cement is no longer available at previous prices and that purchasing it has become increasingly challenging. A resident of Thinadhoo who spoke to RaajjeMV noted that while a bag of cement was previously priced at MVR 145, the price has now surged to MVR 190.
Consequently, The protesters have called for cement to be sold at its previous price.
Furthermore, RaajjeMV has learned that only 500 sacks were brought for the entire city. Distribution is currently limited to a maximum of five sacks per person.
Furthermore, payments for cement purchases must be made exclusively in cash.
Under these circumstances, a large number of people gathered there called for the resignation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Some protesters were also seen carrying placards displaying slogans demanding his resignation.
