The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to withdraw the no-confidence motion against its interim chairperson, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, and reinstate officials who were previously removed from senior positions within the party.
A reliable source has informed RaajjeMV that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to reinstate Ibrahim Waheed as Deputy Chairperson (Admin) and Ahmed Mauroof as Legal Director.
The two individuals were removed from their positions amidst internal disagreements that have surfaced within the MDP over the past few days.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that a resolution has been found for the internal disputes within the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), paving the way for the entire leadership to work together. Reliable sources have informed this outlet that following these efforts, it has been decided to withdraw the no-confidence motion against Ghafoor.
A meeting of the party's national council has been scheduled for next Monday to decide on a no-confidence motion against Ghafoor. The motion was submitted following internal disputes that arose after former President Nasheed was denied the opportunity to speak at a party gathering.
Last Wednesday, a motion was submitted to remove the interim chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, from his position, backed by the signatures of 55 members of the party’s National Congress.
This publication has learned that a decision on these matters is scheduled to be made during a closed-door meeting of the party’s National Congress on Saturday night. According to available information, the meeting is intended to be held in secret. However, the outcomes of the deliberations are expected to be shared with the media.
The no-confidence motion against Ghafoor was submitted on the grounds that he has begun acting in direct violation of the party's constitution. The motion highlights several grievances, including the notification of Ibrahim Waheed's removal from his position as Deputy Chairperson. It further notes the abrupt dismissal of the party's Legal Director, Ahmed Mauroof, without any formal explanation or reason provided for his removal.
The complaint highlighted that the party is currently engaged in extensive legal efforts, having submitted various cases to state institutions regarding the recent elections and other matters. It further noted that abruptly dismissing the party's Legal Director without providing any justification at such a critical juncture would cause significant distress and concern among the party's membership.
