Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that a resolution has been reached regarding the internal issues faced by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) over the past two days, paving the way for the entire leadership to work together cohesively.
Speaking at a rally held in Lh. Hinnavaru to celebrate MDP's success in the Local Council Elections, President Solih emphasized that MDP has always been a party that embraces diverse opinions and perspectives, noting that this inclusivity remains a core principle of the party.
President Solih stated that MDP has a history of successfully reconciling differing views and aligning them with the aspirations of its members. He highlighted that the party has consistently delivered results that meet the expectations of its grassroots supporters through such efforts.
According to President Solih, the recent internal disagreements were typical of the challenges the party has faced before. However, he acknowledged that this particular situation caused significant concern among the general members. He revealed that since the issues arose, the party leadership has been engaged in continuous, daily discussions to find a way forward.
The former President assured that a consensus has now been reached, enabling the leadership to collaborate as requested by the members. He further asserted that in the pursuit of winning the 2028 Presidential Election, MDP will move forward with a united leadership, ensuring that no individual is sidelined or excluded.
Notably, the rally held to celebrate the party's success in the Local Council Elections and the referendum was boycotted by former Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail and former President Mohamed Nasheed. Amidst the escalating internal tensions, a petition signed by 55 members has also been submitted seeking the removal of the party's interim Chairperson and Hanimaadhoo MP, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa.
