Muizzu's Administration

Ghafoor to President Muizzu: "The bag is empty now. You cannot keep holding onto it by trying to refill it."

Ghafoor stated that the establishment of the rule of law and social justice remains a key aspiration of the people, noting that citizens will continue to voice their dissent whenever their fundamental rights and powers are undermined.

The interim chairperson of the MDP, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, has stated that despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledges to bring reforms in line with the public pulse, the nation's affairs have now deteriorated to a point where rectification will be extremely difficult.

He made these remarks while speaking on RaajjeTV's "Fala Surukhee" program. In a post on X, President Muizzu stated that he respects the outcomes of Saturday's local council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) by-elections, as well as the public referendum. He further noted that, with the grace of God, the government will work to address necessary improvements in alignment with the will of the people.

Referring to the matter, Ghafoor stated that if there were a genuine intent to reform the nation, there is nothing that could not be achieved. He remarked that President Muizzu’s promises are so numerous they exceed his own age. Furthermore, he alleged that the President is misappropriating the funds allocated for state administration.

"This is the people's tax money, and there is a limit to what the public can endure. While local council elections are often influenced by family ties, the people have come out this time and said 'no.' It has reached a point where the only honorable thing left to do is resign and go home. The sack is empty now; you can no longer keep it upright by trying to fill it with more," Ghafoor said.

Furthermore, he stated that the public desires a nation governed by the rule of law and the establishment of social justice. Ghafoor emphasized that whenever the people's power is undermined, they will continue to make their voices heard, noting that this is a matter the public must remain deeply mindful of.
