The core element of governance is public support, and President Muizzu no longer possesses it: Saleem
MDP National Congress member Ahmed Saleem stated that the results of the recent referendum clearly demonstrate a significant loss of public confidence in the government. Highlighting widespread public dissatisfaction with state decisions and alleging irregularities during the electoral process, Saleem argued that since a large majority of the citizens have rejected the administration, it no longer possesses the legitimacy to remain in power.

Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem), a member of the MDP National Congress, has stated that the fundamental element of governance is the support of the people, and that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu no longer possesses this mandate.
He made these remarks while speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program.
He stated that the referendum results clearly demonstrate the extent to which the public has lost confidence in the state. Saleem remarked that the citizens will not allow President Muizzu to govern the country as he pleases by amending the Constitution at will. He characterized the public's message as a clear rejection of the current leadership, suggesting that the people are effectively seeking a "divorce" from the administration. He further noted that the public is dissatisfied with the leader's decisions regarding state finances and other governance matters. Saleem added that the people are declaring the current administration unfit for office and have expressed that they no longer wish to move forward with such leadership.
"Never before have the people spoken so clearly on any issue, with 71% in agreement. They have made their voices heard. This is a systemic failure; it is proof that the state is no longer fit for purpose. One can choose to remain in denial, but the meaning of this result cannot be misrepresented," Saleem said.
Furthermore, he alleged that the government made extensive efforts to deceive the public during the recent referendum. He noted that even as voting was underway, there was a visible lack of trust among state officials toward one another. Specifically, he claimed that officials took the ballot papers of healthy individuals and cast votes on their behalf. Maaz Saleem further stated that the fundamental issue currently facing the state is this pervasive lack of mutual trust.
