588 ballot boxes to be placed for next month's election
For the upcoming elections, authorities have decided to place 240 ballot boxes in the Greater Male' area and 322 across the atolls, with the highest concentration of boxes allocated to Addu City and Raa Atoll. While no ballot boxes will be stationed abroad or in industrial zones this time, a total of 294,937 individuals are eligible to vote in an election that will include polling for local councils, women's development committees, and a public referendum.

The Elections Commission has announced that a total of 588 ballot boxes will be stationed across the Maldives for the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections. Scheduled for April 4, the elections will follow the precedent of previous years, with the majority of ballot boxes being placed in the administrative islands across the atolls.
According to statistics released by the Elections Commission, a total of 322 ballot boxes will be stationed across the atolls. In the Greater Male' area, which includes Male', Hulhumale', and Villimale', a total of 240 ballot boxes will be placed. This includes 180 boxes in Male', 51 in Hulhumale', and 9 in Villimale'. Of the ballot boxes allocated for the Greater Male' area, 98 are designated specifically for residents of Male'. Additionally, 142 boxes will be set up for residents from other atolls and cities who are currently living in the capital region.
Among the atolls, the highest number of ballot boxes will be stationed in Addu City, Raa Atoll, and Haa Alif Atoll. Specifically, authorities have decided to place 29 boxes in Addu City, 25 in Raa Atoll, and 23 in Haa Alif Atoll. Furthermore, 21 ballot boxes will be allocated to resorts, while a total of five boxes will be placed across various prison facilities. This includes two boxes at Maafushi Prison, with one box each scheduled for Asseyri Prison, Hulhumale’ Prison, and Dhoonidhoo Prison.
The Elections Commission has announced that no polling stations will be established abroad or in industrial islands for the upcoming election, as the number of registered voters in those locations did not meet the required threshold.
A total of 294,937 individuals are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections, where 2,960 candidates are contesting for various positions. According to the Elections Commission, the polls scheduled for April 4 will include the Local Council Elections, the Women's Development Committee Elections, and a public referendum.
