The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has successfully concluded its door-to-door campaign activities in the Central Hulhumale' constituency.
A door-to-door campaign event was held in Hulhumale’ on Sunday night featuring Male’ City Mayor and MDP mayoral candidate Adam Azim. The event also included Safaath Ahmed Zahir, the MDP candidate for the Hulhumale’ Central constituency council seat, along with Fathimath Yuha Ibrahim, who is contesting for the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) seat for the same constituency, and Aishath Reesha, the candidate for the WDC presidency.
Speaking at the event, Male' City Mayor Adam Azim stated that the government is intensifying its efforts to secure seats in Male' for the upcoming elections. The Mayor noted that even the ruling PNC acknowledges its failure to address the needs of the city's residents. He further asserted that, having failed to deliver on their promises, the government is now resorting to deceptive tactics and character assassination against candidates. Azim also highlighted that the government is attempting to take credit for projects and initiatives currently being carried out by the City Council.
"The PNC councilors hold the majority. No decision made remains unimplemented; the evidence is clear. If there is failure, it lies with the PNC councilors. They are the ones failing to deliver and failing to attend," Azim said.
Azim further stated that the MDP is the only party with candidates capable of delivering the high-quality services envisioned under a decentralized system. Safath Ahmed Zahir, who is contesting for the council on the MDP ticket, remarked that some of the PNC candidates currently serving on the council have failed even to attend sessions. She emphasized that sincere work can only be achieved by those who actually show up for council meetings, adding that the public is currently disillusioned with the performance of the incumbent councilors.
He further alleged that the government is attempting to disrupt the election by offering bribes to certain candidates. However, Adam Azim urged the public to remain vigilant against such actions and deliver a resounding rejection of the government in the upcoming local council elections, Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections, and the scheduled referendum.
