Muizzu administration has neglected island development over the past two years: Shahid
MDP President Abdulla Shahid has criticized President Dr. Muizzu’s administration, stating that as it enters its second year, island development projects have stalled and the government has neglected its pledges to the people. Despite significant state budget expenditures, Shahid noted a lack of progress in regional development and accused the current administration of halting projects initiated by the previous government.

Abdulla Shahid, President of the main opposition party MDP, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has significantly neglected island development over the past two years.
Shahid made these remarks during an interview with RaajjeTV regarding the current situation of the islands, as part of his ongoing visits to the atolls.
Shahid stated that as the current administration approaches its second year, development projects across the islands have come to a complete standstill. Criticizing the government's policies, he noted that the foundation stones laid by President Muizzu during his visits to various islands have remained "petrified," with no further progress made on the projects.
No development projects are currently underway. Furthermore, the foundation stones laid during recent official visits have remained untouched and stagnant. The public is questioning the whereabouts of the numerous pledges made during the presidential election, as well as the promises made over the past two years. Where are the results of the foundation stones laid across these islands? What has been achieved for these cities—Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo—considering the 57 billion rufiyaa budget was exhausted last year? Despite spending 57 billion rufiyaa of the people's money, there is nothing to show for it.MDP President Abdulla Shahid
Highlighting the grievances received from the public, Shahid stated that many of the promises made during the presidential election campaign remain unfulfilled today. He specifically noted that over the past two years, no significant progress or projects have been delivered for major population centers, including Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo.
Furthermore, Shahid stated that despite the state budget expenditure of 57 billion rufiyaa last year, the public saw no tangible benefits from those funds. He added that it is unacceptable for projects to remain stalled with no progress made in the development of cities and islands, despite such significant spending of public money.
The current administration has halted several key development projects initiated by the government of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The opposition claims that the administration has failed to launch any significant new projects over the past two years, leading to a complete standstill in the nation's development.
