Muizzu prevents members and company executives from conducting business without paying kickbacks: Mauroof
Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir has expressed concern over the loss of integrity within state institutions and the lack of oversight regarding corruption. He alleged that employees and resources of state-owned enterprises are being misappropriated to develop the ruling party's campaign hubs.

Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, has stated that even lawmakers and heads of companies are unable to conduct business without providing kickbacks to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
He made these remarks while speaking on Raajje TV’s "Fala Surukhee" program.
He stated that corruption and embezzlement are rampant in the country due to the absence of an ethical institution to investigate such matters. Mauroof noted that the failure to probe these issues has led to corruption becoming normalized. Mauroof further claimed that Members of Parliament holding senior positions in the current administration have complained that even they are required to provide "kickbacks" to President Muizzu if they engage in any business activities.
Mauroof stated that when high-ranking officials engage in corruption, it sets a precedent for their subordinates to follow suit. He noted that government employees are being utilized to construct PNC campaign hubs in both Male' and the atolls, asserting that such practices are unacceptable.
"Those involved in the work are telling us that they have been instructed to go there in plain clothes. They are using employees from various companies to carry out this work," he said.
Mauroof stated that the government's situation is deteriorating rapidly, with state-owned enterprises and independent institutions effectively being transformed into branches of the ruling PNC. He further noted that the Maldives has regressed to its pre-democratic state, resulting in the loss of the people's power.
Mauroof’s remarks follow recent revelations that materials brought by WAMCO for the construction of the L. Isdhoo Waste Management Center are being used to build a large hall on a private property in the island. Reports indicate that employees from state-owned enterprises have been deployed to work day and night to complete the masonry and roofing of the structure. Furthermore, photos and videos have recently circulated showing employees of state-owned companies participating in the construction of the ruling PNC’s main campaign site in Male'.
