Male' City Mayor Adam Azim, who is contesting the upcoming mayoral election on the opposition MDP ticket, has stated that individuals who attend official meetings in sleepwear are incapable of performing any other meaningful work.
Azim made these remarks in response to recent criticism from several members of the People's National Congress (PNC). The PNC members called for Azim’s resignation if he truly wished to see improvements in Male' City, suggesting that he hand over his responsibilities to Deputy Mayor Mohamed Arish.
In response, Azim stated that the Male' City Council has been unable to hold its sessions because PNC councilors failed to attend five consecutive meetings. He criticized this as a display of gross irresponsibility. Azim questioned the capability of those who failed to show up for five straight days to deliberate on matters concerning the public.
"The Deputy Mayor attended the meeting in pajamas. One must wake up in the morning to come to the office, and one must attend the meeting to get any work done. Seeing someone sleeping during a morning session is a disgraceful sight. When people join council meetings straight from their beds while still in their nightwear, there is no reason to re-elect them," Azim said.
Azim stated that the candidates from the MDP are hardworking individuals, emphasizing that this is the primary reason they should be elected. He further noted that managing the affairs of Male' requires a dedicated and proactive team, asserting that the MDP is the only party capable of delivering such commitment.
