Physical work is yet to commence on Kendhikulhudhoo Fitness and Recreation Center, despite the project being awarded to MACL
The Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council has reported that construction of a fitness and recreation center remains stalled despite the land being handed over to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) in April last year. Although the council has provided the necessary land registry and project documentation, the site remains neglected and overgrown with vegetation.

The President of the Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council, Mohamed Rauf, has stated that physical work has yet to commence on the Kendhikulhudhoo Fitness and Recreation Center, despite the project having been officially awarded to a contractor.
In an interview with RaajjeTV regarding the Kendhikulhudhoo Recreation Center, Rauf stated that the land was handed over to MACL on April 1 last year for the government’s planned fitness and recreation center. Rauf noted that the contractor had reached out to identify the site and that the necessary information had been provided. He further clarified that while the land belongs to the Ministry of Sports, it is currently under the administrative care of the local council.
Rauf stated that the project assigned to MACL had already been subcontracted to another party. He further noted that a third party is responsible for securing the land and coordinating the onsite operations.
The land registry is already in place. Once a request is submitted to us, the registration process will be completed and the documents handed over within approximately one week.Mohamed Rauf, President of the Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council
The land allocated for the establishment of a fitness center in Kendhikulhudhoo is currently overgrown with thick grass. No work has been carried out at the site in recent times.
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) was tasked with establishing fitness and recreation centers in April last year. This assignment coincided with a scheduled visit to the island by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
