The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has disbursed the mandatory Ramadan allowance to its employees after the issue was brought to the media's attention. Despite the commencement of the holy month, several staff members had reported not receiving the payment until the matter surfaced in news reports.
Employees have been expressing significant concerns as the company's Human Resources Department failed to provide a specific date for the disbursement of their Ramadan allowance, even as the holy month began.
Following widespread media coverage and a surge of public criticism on social media, the company finally disbursed the Ramadan allowance to its employees on the 19th of this month.
The allowances were credited to some employees last Tuesday night.
According to the law, every Muslim employee must be provided with a Ramadan allowance of MVR 3,000 before the start of the holy month.
Amidst mounting reports of administrative mismanagement at the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), concerns have been raised regarding significant delays in salary payments. Employees reportedly received their wages for January only after the 5th of February.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior official at the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) stated that several expatriate employees have yet to receive their salaries, noting that last month’s pay was also delayed until after the 20th. He further alleged that some expatriate workers are being intimidated and warned against speaking out about the issue.
Addressing management's allegations that companies are failing to settle their dues with WAMCO, he stated that the corporation receives a significant amount of cash daily and that businesses are indeed paying their bills. He further noted that while some companies occasionally experience delays in making payments, they do eventually settle their outstanding invoices.
He stated that this was merely an excuse and did not represent the actual problem. He further noted that numerous political appointments have already been made to the detriment of the company, involving individuals who simply clock in and return home. Additionally, he remarked that some employees spend their time playing cards and engaging in various other games within the office.
However, he noted that the salaries of political appointees are several times higher than those of regular company employees, and that these officials face no issues regarding their pay. He further stated that they receive their salaries even before the start of the month and were also provided their Ramadan allowance well in advance.
Highlighting the dire state of WAMCO, he noted that if the current trend continues, services will soon be disrupted and the company will face complete bankruptcy. He further stated that the corporation is already operating at a loss.
Amidst mounting concerns surrounding the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), it has emerged that the company has failed to remit pension contributions for over a year, despite deducting the funds from employees' salaries.
