Candidate number draw for Council and WDC elections scheduled for Thursday
The Elections Commission has announced that the draw to determine candidate numbers for the Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections will take place nationwide at 10:00 AM this Thursday. A total of 2,994 candidates are contesting the elections, with the final list of candidates scheduled for publication this Saturday. Candidates wishing to withdraw their names from the race may do so at any time until the commencement of the draw.

The Elections Commission has announced that the lucky draw to determine candidate numbers for the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections will take place simultaneously across all islands this Thursday. The elections are scheduled to be held on April 4.
A total of 2,994 candidates are set to contest the upcoming elections, in which 294,937 people are eligible to vote. The draw to determine the official candidate numbers for both elections is scheduled to take place this Thursday at 10:00 AM.
The ballot draw for Male' City is scheduled to take place at the Election Center established in the former Drug Court building. Meanwhile, draws for other cities and islands will be held at their respective council offices or at venues designated by the local councils.
According to the Elections Commission, if a representative is attending the draw on behalf of a candidate, they must present a formal letter from the candidate. This letter must include the representative's full name, ID card number, and a copy of their ID card. The representative is also required to bring their original ID card to the proceedings.
The permanent list of candidates, including their assigned candidate numbers, is scheduled to be released this Saturday. A total of 1,210 candidates from six political parties and 401 independent candidates have submitted their applications to contest the election.
According to the Elections Commission, candidates who have already submitted their applications and wish to withdraw their names must do so before the deadline at 10:00 AM this Thursday.
While 626 councilors are set to be elected to island councils and 52 to city councils, an equal number of members will also be elected to the Women's Development Committees across these islands and cities.
