MP Mauroof removed from Majlis chamber
Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, was named and removed from the legislative chamber following a protest against proposed constitutional amendments. Despite repeated instructions from Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla to return to his seat, Mauroof continued to disrupt proceedings, leading the Speaker to formally name him and order his expulsion from the floor.

The Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has been named and ordered to leave the legislative chamber.
During Tuesday's People's Majlis session, MP Mauroof was named and ordered to leave the chamber. The incident occurred after the floor was opened for debate on the report by the Committee on Independent Institutions regarding the proposed constitutional amendment to hold presidential and parliamentary elections concurrently.
As the committee report was presented to the floor, Mauroof staged a protest in front of the presiding officer's desk, holding a copy of the Constitution.
Consequently, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, presiding over the session, repeatedly advised the member to return to his seat. Following this, the Speaker named the member and ordered Mauroof to be removed from the floor.
According to the agenda for Tuesday's sitting, the proceedings will include the referral of a presidential nomination for the Elections Commission to the relevant permanent committee for review and decision-making. The appointment is to be made in accordance with Section 4(b) of the Elections Commission Act.
Furthermore, in accordance with the Foreign Service Act, the President has submitted a proposal to appoint non-resident ambassadors to the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Malta. This matter has been forwarded to the relevant standing committee for review and deliberation.
