Former Member of Parliament for the Baarah constituency, Ahmed Abdulla, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appears to be acting in a manner that berates and intimidates the public.
He made these remarks while speaking at the MDP's "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally held on Thursday night.
He stated that the current administration has stripped Maldivians of their value, honor, and dignity. He further noted that the government addresses the citizens in a disrespectful and arbitrary manner.
"The Presidential Address felt more like a verbal assault directed at those seated before him while addressing the public. What we saw in the speech was a display of intense anger. This is distasteful. This is how he reacts when the people, who elected him, demand that he fulfill his duties in accordance with the Constitution," he said.
He stated that after challenging the budget, the current administration has been acting in a highly disgraceful manner. He further noted that while all powers originate from the people, this government has betrayed the public. Abdulla remarked that the spirit of the Constitution is being buried today, warning that the consequences of these actions will be very bitter.
"The MDP is the only party that shapes its policies out of genuine love and compassion for the Maldivian people and remains committed to serving them based on those principles," he said.
He stated that the government's current approach involves repeatedly spreading numerous falsehoods ahead of every election, noting that the Maldivian people ultimately bear the brunt of these actions. He further remarked that such deceit and dishonesty would inevitably lead to a loss of public trust.
