Parliamentary committee approves constitutional amendment in five minutes; report on bill to synchronize elections added to Tuesday’s agenda
Tuesday's parliamentary session is set to include the presentation of a committee report on a proposed constitutional amendment to synchronize presidential and parliamentary elections. The agenda also features the appointment of a new member to the Elections Commission and the referral of non-resident ambassadorial appointments for two countries to the relevant committee for review. Additionally, the session will see the introduction of the National Service Bill and several amendments to the Employment Act.

After postponing the second sitting of the current People’s Majlis session from Monday to Tuesday, a parliamentary committee on Monday approved constitutional amendments in a five-minute meeting. The committee report on the bill to synchronize two major elections has now been included in the agenda for Tuesday’s sitting.
According to the agenda for Tuesday’s sitting, the proceedings will include forwarding the President’s nomination for a new member of the Elections Commission to the relevant standing committee for review and recommendation, pursuant to Section 4(b) of the Elections Commission Act.
Furthermore, in accordance with the Foreign Service Act, the President has submitted a proposal to appoint Non-Resident Ambassadors to the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Malta. This matter has been forwarded to the relevant standing committee for review and deliberation.
Furthermore, the parliamentary agenda includes the introduction of a National Service Bill, along with two separate bills aimed at amending the Employment Act.
The agenda for Tuesday's sitting includes the report from the Committee on Independent Institutions regarding its review of the bill to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives. This report pertains to the government-proposed legislation aimed at synchronizing parliamentary and presidential elections to be held concurrently.
The proposed constitutional amendment stipulates that parliamentary elections must be held concurrently with the presidential election conducted under Article 110 of the Constitution.
