Ghafoor hails MDP Primary turnout, urges party unity ahead of elections
Ghafoor attributed the smooth conduct of the election to the cooperation of all candidates. He stressed the importance of those who do not secure a win working alongside the successful candidates for the party's collective goals.

The acting Chairperson of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and MP for Hanimaadhoo constituency Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, has stated that the voter turnout for Friday’s MDP primaries for the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) has been commendable. He emphasized that the strong participation in the election highlights the vital importance of remaining united.
Ghafoor made these remarks during an interview with RaajjeTV as part of their coverage of Friday’s MDP primaries.
He noted that the organizational arrangements for the election have been excellent and expressed satisfaction with the percentage of voters that cast their ballots.
He added that this demonstrates that MDP is one that stands as a single entity when unity is required, and that it shows the fundamental importance of “staying together”.

The MDP primary voting for the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) took place on January 16, from 2:30pm to 8pm.
For the upcoming elections, more than 510 candidates applied to contest for Local Councils under an MDP ticket, while over 190 candidates applied for the WDCs.
A total of 65 ballot boxes were designated for the primary. This includes 14 boxes in Malé City specifically for atoll residents, 17 boxes for Malé constituencies, and 34 ballot boxes stationed outside the capital.
