‘My Portal’ opens for candidates ahead of 2026 Local Council Elections
EC has launched the My Portal digital platform for Local Council and WDC election candidates to complete profiles, upload documents, and pay fees. A key change requires Local Council candidates to collect 50 supporters' signatures electronically through the portal, replacing manual collection. Candidates can prepare their applications now, but formal submission will only begin when the official application window opens.

EC meets with the National Center for Information Technology on the form and other services to be submitted through "eFaas" | Elections Commission
The Elections Commission has officially opened the ‘My Portal’ digital platform as of 06 January 2026, enabling prospective candidates to begin the application process for this year’s Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
In an official announcement, the commission revealed that the portal is now administratively accessible, allowing interested individuals to complete their profile information, upload required documents, and process administrative fees in preparation for the upcoming elections.
The EC revealed that candidates are required to log in to the portal through my.elections.gov.mv using their personally verified eFaas accounts.
Candidates intending to contest under a political party must select their respective party within the portal, which will generate an endorsement request to the party.
This endorsement process will be handled through the Simedha portal designated for political organizations.
The commission also shed light on a significant procedural change introduced this year, requiring candidates contesting for Local Council seats to obtain the mandatory 50 supporters’ signatures electronically through ‘My Portal’. This change replaces the previously used manual signature collection process.
Under the revised system, candidates must enter the National ID card number and mobile phone number of eligible voters within their constituency. Those voters will then receive an SMS notification and must log in to My Portal using their own eFaas accounts to either approve or reject the request to support the candidate. The commission clarified that candidates contesting for WDCs are exempt from the requirement to submit 50 supporting signatures.
EC has urged potential candidates to make use of this period to complete their personal information, upload all required documentation, and settle administrative payments so they are fully prepared ahead of the official election call. For additional information regarding the portal, the commission has directed the public to contact its hotline at 1414.
The announcement further stressed that while candidates may complete and save their information and documents during this administrative phase, the formal submission of candidacy to the commission will only be completed once the official window for election applications is formally declared open.
