Adam Azim dominates MDP Primary for Malé City mayoral race
Adam Azim won the Maldivian Democratic Party primary for Malé City mayor with over 60 percent of votes across 17 constituencies, defeating challenger Ali Azim. The contest revealed internal party divisions, with former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih backing Adam Azim while former President Mohamed Nasheed supported Ali Azim.

Current Mayor Adam Azim has secured the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket for the Malé City mayoral election following the party’s primary held on Friday, reinforcing his position within the party hierarchy.
The internal election pitted the sitting mayor, Adam Azim, against Ali Azim. Preliminary results show that Adam Azim won decisively, obtaining more than 60 percent of the total votes cast. The primary vote was conducted across 17 constituencies in Malé City.
The contest also exposed clear divisions in political backing within MDP, with former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih supporting Adam Azim, while former President Mohamed Nasheed threw his support behind Ali Azim.
