MDP sets the stage for primaries with 65 ballot boxes across the country
Under the announced arrangements, a total of 65 ballot boxes will be placed nationwide. This includes 14 ballot boxes designated for atoll residents, 17 ballot boxes allocated for Malé constituencies within the capital, and an additional 34 ballot boxes to be stationed at various locations outside the capital.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially announced the locations of ballot boxes for its primary elections for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
Under the announced arrangements, a total of 65 ballot boxes will be placed nationwide. This includes 14 ballot boxes designated for atoll residents, 17 ballot boxes allocated for Malé City constituencies within the capital, and an additional 34 ballot boxes to be stationed at various locations outside the capital.
In Malé City, ballot boxes will be distributed across several schools. Four ballot boxes will be placed at Majeediyya School, two at Galolhu School, three at Iskandhar School, four at Hiriya School, one at Muhyiddin School, two at Gazi School, and one at Kamil Didi School.
The 14 ballot boxes allocated specifically for atoll residents living in the capital will be located at Kalaafaanu School.
At the provincial level, the highest number of ballot boxes will be placed at the Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Education Center to serve the Thinadhoo constituencies. In other high-population areas, three ballot boxes will be placed in the L. Gan constituency, two in Addu City, and one in S. Hulhudhoo. One ballot box will also be stationed in Fuvahmulah City, while two ballot boxes each will be placed in Gaaf Dhaal and Gaaf Alif atolls.
Voting for the MDP Local Council and Women’s Development Committee primaries is scheduled for Friday, January 16, from 2:30pm to 8pm.
More than 510 candidates have applied to contest the Local Council elections as MDP representatives, while over 190 candidates have submitted applications to contest the WDC elections.
