K. Maafushi has secured a spot in the second round of the ongoing 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament.
Maafushi went head-to-head with R. Alifushi at the Galolhu National Stadium on Wednesday evening for the final match of Group D.
Maafushi won the match 1 – 0.
Alifushi had already secured a spot in the second round, before Wednesday’s game.
Lh. Naifaru had also qualified for the second round from the group.
Maafushi scored their goal in the second half. Two minutes into the second half, Ismail Nazeeh gave Maafushi the lead with an assist from Ibrahim Atheeq.
Maafushi scored from a ball they gained due to a mistake by Alifushi's goalkeeper. Alifushi had created several opportunities to equalize during the match. However, they were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
With this win, Maafushi has qualified for the second round as the third-placed team in the group. They finished with four points from three matches. Alifushi topped the group with six points from three matches. Naifaru, who finished second, also had six points from three matches.
