The team from Guraidhoo island of Kaafu atoll has triumphed over the team from Thimarafushi island of Thaa atoll in the ongoing 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament.
Guraidhoo went head-to-head with Thimarafushi at the Galolhu National Stadium on Wednesday evening, in a group stage match in the second round of the tournament.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Thimarafushi had drawn their first match against Fuvahmulah City. The match against Thimarafushi was Guraidhoo's first game in the second round.
Guraidhoo started the match well and maintained a good performance. They took the lead by scoring a goal in the 13th minute after kickoff. The goal for Guraidhoo was scored by their foreign player, Ahmed Ibrahim Abbas. He scored the goal by finishing a chance set up by Ahmed Rishfan. Guraidhoo had more chances to score additional goals in the match and Thimarafushi also had opportunities to equalize the score.
With one match remaining in the second round, Guraidhoo has secured a place in the quarter-finals and is currently leading Group E. Guraidhoo will face Fuvahmulah in their final match of the group stage.
