The team from Alifushi island of Raa atoll is off to a good start in the second round of the 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament group stage, after beating the team from Kurendhoo island of Lhaviyani atoll.
Alifushi won the match played on Tuesday night at the Galolhu National Stadium in Group H with a score of 1 – 0.
Alifushi scored the goal in the second half of the match. In the first round of the tournament, Alifushi won two out of three matches they played, while losing one match.
Kurendhoo has won one out of the three matches they played. Another match ended in a draw, while they lost the other match.
Alifushi made great efforts to score against Kurendhoo even in the first half of the match. However, Kurendhoo’s goalkeeper, Sujan Perera from Sri Lanka, managed to stop the attacks launched by Alifushi. Alifushi's efforts to score in the match were successful in the 63rd minute. Ahmed Husham scored that goal for Alifushi from a ball provided by Hussein Nihan.
With this win, Alifushi has increased their chances of reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament. In addition to Alifushi and Kurendhoo, Malé City is also in this group.
