The team from Guraidhoo island of Kaafu atoll has topped the group after winning against the team from Fuvahmulah City in the ongoing 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament's second round group stage.
A draw will be taken to determine the second-place team in Group E.
Fuvahmulah City drew their first match against Th. Thimarafushi in the group stage. In the second match, Guraidhoo won against Thimarafushi, securing a spot in the quarterfinals. In the group's final match played on Saturday night at the Galolhu National Stadium, Guraidhoo beat Fuvahmulah 1 – 0.
Ahmed Shuoon scored the leading goal for Guraidhoo in the 33rd minute of the first half. It came from a free kick taken by Mohamed Naaim, which deflected off a Fuvahmulah player. Shuoon seized the opportunity and sent the ball into the goal in one go. Fuvahmulah's goalkeeper couldn't do much to save the shot.
With this victory, Guraidhoo has secured the top spot in the group, winning both matches and accumulating six points. Fuvahmulah City in second place and Thimarafushi in third place have an equal number of points and are tied in all aspects. With this, a draw will be held between the two teams to determine who will advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
