The construction of mosques in two islands, has been contracted.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs contracted the projects to construct mosques in Muraidhoo island of Haa Alif atoll and Gemanafushi island of Gaaf Alif atoll, during a ceremony held at the Islamic Center on Thursday.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali signed the contract on behalf of the government, with Evosun Maldives Private Limited’s Director Hussain Waheed signing on behalf of the company.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, the Islamic Minister highlighted that it was a great request of the ministry to successfully complete the projects and hand them over to the ministry as per the agreement, as the mosques to be constructed in these islands are highly anticipated by the island communities.
The minister also gave his full assurance that the ministry will extend all the necessary cooperation and support for the successful implementation of these projects.
The mosque to be constructed in Muraidhoo island under the agreement is valued at MVR 8,080,557.86.
Further, the mosque to be constructed in Gemanafushi island under the agreement is valued at MVR 10,190,999.55.
Both of the mosques being build are funded by the government’s Public Sector Investment Programmes (PSIP) initiative and will have the capacity to accommodate up to 300 worshippers. The mosques will be built to accommodate both male and female worshippers.
The projects were contracted to be completed within 365 days.
