Criminal Court on Tuesday found Abdulla Naseef and Mohamed Shifau guilty in the murder of Ahmed Mirza, sentencing them to death.
Three suspects were charged with assaulting Mirza on April 11, 2011. He died on April 14, 2016 while receiving treatment for the injuries sustained in the attack, including severe head trauma, at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
The third suspect, Ali Rifshan was acquitted of the charge.
While Naseef was charged with first degree murder, the other two were charged as accessory. The state raised the charges against them on August 2, 2011.
While the hearings in the trial concluded in September 2016, at Tuesday’s hearing presiding judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf said that Naseef and Shifau have been found ‘guilty beyond a reasonable doubt’ in the murder of Ahmed Mirza.
