Construction of King Salman Mosque handed over to Turkish company
To be completed by August 2018
The mosque was named after the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud due to his generous donation

Maldives, on Tuesday, signed a $24 million contract with Turkish company, Alke-Turmaks Joint Venture, for the construction of King Salman Mosque.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu signed the contract, on behalf of the government. 

Muizzu, speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony, said that the project- which will be the biggest mosque built in the country- will be completed by August 2018.

He said that Alke-Turmaks have been conditioned to complete the project within 500 days.

Muizzu highlighted that the mosque can accomodate 6,000 people at once,and that with space outside, a total of 10,000 people will be able to pray at any given time.

The King Salman Mosque, named such due to a generous donation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will be a six story structure. The structure also consists of a library, a centre for Holy Quran, multi-purpose halls, classrooms and meeting rooms.
